Increase Online Traffic

Sent by Jake Howard on June 16th 2008 source

Increase Online Traffic is a professional Squidoo lens created by Doug Barger, who offers free expert advice on how to increase online traffic to a website.

The site is well developed and looks extremely professional. The lens looks more like a corporate website as opposed to a standard Squidoo lens, which reinforces the professionalism of Doug Barger and also provides his readers with increased confidence.

Title: The title "Increase Online Traffic" is simple yet effective as informs the user immediately of the purpose of the site. In saying that though, with such a common phrase, it does not do a lot for branding of the site, as it is quite a commonly used term on the internet. To maximize branding, the site could be re-titled ∜Increase Online Traffic with "Doug Barger" or "Increase Online Traffic Doug Barger". That way, users have something that they can fully identify the site by. There are thousands of sites dedicated to increasing online traffic, but there is only one Doug Barger.

Photo: The photo looks professional and provides users with confidence, as it shows them that Doug Barger is prepared to put himself 100% behind the advice and content that he offers. Just left of the photo underneath ∜Start your own Squidoo page∝ it says "Your Fans Are Waiting" directly underneath that is "g!" Not sure if this is a typo or not.

Color Scheme: The color scheme definitely works for the site. It is simple without being boring, easy on the eye and comes across as extremely professional. The blue, orange and white all seem to go well with one another.

Content: There is plenty of great and informative content available on the site directed at increasing traffic. This information is extremely valuable and one that definitely makes it worth while for the reader.

Top Half: The top half of the site is well thought out and makes the most of the space available, the bottom half of the site has room for improvement. As a user scrolls down the age, the right hand column becomes extremely blank. This gives the slight impression that the site is either unfinished, oddly designed or that the site simply ran out of content. In saying that though, it is probably more so a restriction on the Squidoo template. It is a decent size column, one that could be better used. Scrolling down to the bottom of the page, are sections like "Guest Book", "My Favorite Squidoo Lens", "Netfix Movies" and various other advertisement sections. Some of these sections appear a bit out of place, and stuck down the bottom of the page, they don∙t receive a great deal of exposure. As these sections are all laid out towards above one another it increases the length of the lens, and also increases the length of the blank column down the right hand side. With the way the rest of the site has been laid out though, one would imagine that it is the squidoo template itself that is restricting full use of the right hand side.

Consider relocating one or two of these features towards the top of the right hand side column. The to of the right hand side column would receive more exposure then the bottom of the page. It will also tighten up the length of the page, along with the amount of empty blank space in the column. The guest book of Netflix movies may work well. There is a lot of blank space available in prime real estate, so the most should be made of it.

Overall it is fantastic site and one that I have added to my favorites.
